Studio 01

Baseline Drawing

This drawing is to establish where I was starting in my rendering class

Studio 02

Perspective Drawing

The purpose of this exercise is to accurately replicate the perspective and lighting in an interior architectural scene. First, you will be constructing a picture plane tool and then finding an appropriate vantage point from which to draw. After a few warm-up drawings, compose the picture by finding the horizon line and center vanishing point, sketching in the major verticals and receding lines. Finally, add detail, shading, and cast shadows, and photograph the scene. If, after working for about an hour, the drawing is not complete, finish at another time, using the digital image as a reference.

Studio 03

Perspective Drawing

The purpose of this exercise is to accurately replicate the perspective and lighting in an exterior architectural scene. Use the same picture plane guide to create a drawing approximately the size of a letter-sized piece of paper. Proceed with this exercise exactly as you did with the interior perspective drawing, but draw in two-point perspective instead of one-point.

Studio 04

Three Dimensional Modeling Drapery

The purpose of this exercise is to accurately describe both the drape and the effect of light on fabric. You will record the way the fabric falls in folds, the weight of the fabric, and the shading and highlights from a strong directional light source.

Studio 05

Figure Drawing

The purpose of this exercise is to practice drawing as accurately as possible the movement and proportion of the model, the light and shade observed on the different planes of the body, and the drape and fold of the model’s clothing. An accurate portrait of the model’s face is not a priority. The object is to draw the model as an accurately proportioned, three-dimensional form, with clear indication of the effects of the light source.

Studio 07

Fabric Textures and Patterns

The purpose of this exercise is to build on the pen and ink wash skills and techniques used in previous exercises and to begin compiling a collection of reference thumbnail sketches of fabric textures and patterns. In this exercise, you will render the textures and patterns of six fabrics in three-inch squares on your paper.
